Call for Papers

The study of ‘space and place’ is fragmented and diffuse and stretches across multiple disciplines in both the humanities and the social sciences. Whilst many researchers have tackled the problem of incorporating and accounting for the role of space in their work, it remains a challenging area of study about which there is little agreement between subjects.

The aim of this conference is to explore the varying approaches to space across a wide range of disciplines, expose attendees to new ideas that may inform their own research and to contribute to the continuing opening up of space as an area of study. We aim to attract postgraduates and early-career researchers interested in the incorporation of concepts of spatiality and spatial analysis into their work. Of particular interest are papers considering the way in which the material aspect of spaces can be interpreted and the methodologies that might be employed in this area of study.

Proposals should include a short abstract (50 words) and a longer (200 word) proposal for 20 minute papers. Proposals should also include authors name, field of study, academic position and institution.

Proposals should be sent by email to spacemattersconf@gmail.com by March 18th 2011
.For any further information, please do not hesitate to enquire. This conference will take place at the University of Manchester on the 27th of May 2011, and is supported by SAGE.
